Why ESOS compliance is essential

The Energy Saving Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) is a mandatory government scheme which affects up to 10,000 United Kingdom organisations.

The scheme has been designed to increase awareness of energy consumption to make it easier for businesses to act, to lower their energy bills and reduce carbon emissions across the UK.

What is ESOS phase 2?

The second phase of the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) is now underway. ESOS requires all large businesses to produce reports on energy usage and efficiency every four years. ESOS is a mandatory government scheme which affects up to 10,000 United Kingdom organisations.

“The Environment Agency says that 40% of organisations were non-compliant after the phase 1 deadline.”

Who is affected by ESOS?

ESOS applies to organisations for which one or more of the following criteria apply:

  • Employ 250 or more people
  • Has an annual turnover in excess of £38,937,777 and a balance sheet total in excess of £33,486,489
  • Is part of a group of UK organisations that includes at least one eligible organisation

What you need to do:

Organisations that qualify for ESOS must carry out ESOS assessments every four years. ESOS assessments are audits of the energy used by buildings, industrial processes and transport to identify cost-effective energy saving measures. There are threats of large fines for non-compliance.

A Different Approach to ESOS phase 2

The Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) is in phase 2 with the threat of £50,000 fines for non-compliance – so it’s time to Act Now.

Moving beyond just compliance, our ESOS consultancy services will help you deliver real savings through our unique approach – so ESOS is no longer an administrative cost but can add real value to your business.

How we can help & what makes us different

We believe the government’s ESOS initiative is a good thing for businesses and the planet. Unfortunately, too many ESOS consultants have rushed in to provide compliance certificates, making money from this, but offering their clients little more than the minimum requirement.

Our approach is different. For the same cost as a typical standalone ESOS audit, we have combined the requirement for an ESOS audit and compliance with our unique Savings Opportunity Report Tool (SORT) and ability to fund and deliver installation projects.

More than just an ESOS assessment

Many of our blue-chip clients already use the SaveMoneyCutCarbon SORT as their evidence for ESOS. Most clients use the tool as the roadmap to make a real difference in reducing the actual energy they use, reducing their bills and improving their bottom line.

This unique, web-based tool helps you to map out all your energy and water savings opportunities across a building vs industry best practice. The report clearly shows the best order of payback by project, providing detail on required investment and savings, and holding all the associated documents for each project with the ability to activate any or all projects through a single major vendor.

Peace of mind comes from the fact that the same company that completed your survey are delivering your projects via our experienced and trusted UK-wide field service team. There are none of the hidden costs often created through using multiple vendors. See some of the latest field service projects here.

We can even fund your projects if capital is not available.

The cloud-based tool is available to you and your team to log into at any time. As well as meeting your ESOS compliance needs, we provide you with a road map to material energy and water savings across your estate; a long-term planning tool, especially useful when applying for sustainability and CSR budgets or reporting on future ESOS stages.

If you have a large vehicle feet the certificate must cover its operation or you will need a report from an ESOS assessor. Compliance by this route must still be notified to the environment agency by the 5th December 2019.
