James Thornton has spent over thirty years working in the commercial property market in the UK.
James started his career as a graduate at Jones Lang Wootton (now Jones Lang LaSalle) and became a Partner in its fund management division. After fifteen years with Jones Lang, James was invited to run the fund management team at Savills which he did for six years. Clients served included pension funds, charitable bodies and family offices.
With the collapse in equity prices at the end of the dot com era and investors requiring access to asset classes other than bonds and equities, James created Mayfair Capital Investment Management Limited in 2002. Today the business manages £400 million of assets including the £200 million Property Income Trust for Charities and the £120 million Mayfair Capital Property Unit Trust, a Fund investing on behalf of Schroders’ Multi Manager Pension Team.
Latterly Mayfair Capital has become involved in the residential market in London through providing preferred equity with profit participation to developers in prime locations.
In the operation of its funds Mayfair Capital operates formal ethical and environmental policies. Mayfair Capital recognises that property in the UK is a leading contributor to carbon emissions and takes its responsibility in this area very seriously. Mayfair Capital is a member of the Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change and wishes to be at the forefront of the debate in preserving and enhancing the environment.
