Volkswagen Group sees electric vehicle sales increase by over 200%

Volkswagen Group sold nearly 10 million cars in 2020 with a dramatic increase in the number of electric vehicles.

In a very tough year reflected across the global market, the group saw volumes shrink by around 15% year on year but its e-offensive was a big success with fully electric vehicle (EV) sales up 214% in 2020, and plug-in hybrid EVs up 175%.

Christian Dahlheim, Head of Volkswagen Group Sales said:

“The Covid-19 pandemic made 2020 an extremely challenging year. The Volkswagen Group performed well in this environment and strengthened its market position. We are particularly pleased that we hit the ground running in our e-offensive in spite of the pandemic and thus took a big step forward in the implementation of our ‘Together 2025+’ strategy. We will keep up the momentum this year, adding many more attractive electric models.”
