Energy efficient appliances can save people thousands of £££s!

Consumers can cuts their energy bills and save thousands of pounds simply by choosing a more energy efficient kitchen appliance, according to Which? researchers.

There are big savings to be had over the lifetime of a machine – and that includes those that have an initial higher purchase cost. Which? checked out a range of appliance, including dishwashers, washing machines and fridge freezers, using the current energy price cap.

Which? says that white goods in the study had expected lifespans of 16-23 years. Fridge Freezers

Which? found that the most costly fridge freezer to run was the Hotpoint FFU3D W 1, with a purchase price of £450. Annual cost (based on an energy price of 21p per kWh) was £134, with a lifetime cost of £2,862.

In contrast, the Which? team assessed the Bosch Serie 4 KGV36VWEAG Freestanding Fridge Freezer annual cost (based on an energy price of 21p per kWh) as £53. Lifetime cost: £1,440.

And the Bosch Serie 6 KGE49AICAG Freestanding Fridge Freezer had annual cost of just £39. Lifetime cost: £1,395.

Dishwashers

The Which? testers found that the most expensive dishwasher to run annually was the Candy CYF 6F52LNW-80 at £78. (Annual cost is based on running five normal washes per week, with an energy price of 21p per kWh). In contrast, the Bosch SMS67MW00G 14 Place Setting Dishwasher had annual costs of £70.

Washing Machines

Which? found that the most expensive washing machine to run annually was the Haier HW100-B14876 at £70. (Annual cost is based on four 40°C cotton washes per week at 21p per kWh). Lifetime cost: £1,614.

By comparison, the Which? team found that the Bosch Serie 4 WAN24109GB 8kg 1200rpm Washing Machine has annual running costs of £48. Lifetime cost: £1,161.

The Bosch WAN28281GB 8kg Load 1400rpm Spin Washing Machine was found to have a yearly cost of £45. Lifetime cost: £1,171.

The Bosch Serie 6 WAU28T64GB 9kg 1400rpm ActiveWater Washing Machine performed well with an annual cost of £54. Lifetime cost: £1,301.

Which? assessors found that the Bosch Serie 6 i-Dos WAU28S80GB 8kg 1400rpm Washing Machine had an annual cost of £53. Lifetime cost: £1,444.
