Congratulations Shuji Nakamura! Co-founder of Soraa awarded 2014 Nobel Prize for physics

LED lighting pioneer Shuji Nakamura, co-founder of Soraa, awarded the 2014 Nobel Prize for physics

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced yesterday that Professors Shuji Nakamura, Isamu Akasaki, and Hiroshi Amano have been awarded the prize for the trio’s breakthrough work on blue LED light.

The breakthrough in providing blue LED light made it possible for LED systems to provide ‘white light’. White light is needed to meet every day lighting needs from the humble lamp, to stadium floodlights.

Replacing traditional sources of white light, such as incandescent bulbs, with modern LED lighting can reduce electricity consumption by 80%. Dr Frances Saunders, from the Institute of Physics adds; ‘with 20% of the world’s electricity used for lighting, it’s been calculated that optimal use of LED lighting could reduce this to 4%.’ As a result of Professor Nakamura’s research, we are much better equipped to meet global targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Professor Nakamura applied his research by founding Soraa. Soraa is a specialist in LED lighting, providing ‘simply perfect light’. This is because Soraa’s products are capable of producing 100% of light in the visible spectrum. We provide more information at https://www.savemoneycutcarbon.com/brand/soraa/.
